WHAT IS The Right Masque for MY Skin Type?

2/18/2021

Picture
Facial masques, unlike moisturizers & serums, provide a shorter, more intense skin experience that delivers performance ingredients in a highly concentrated fashion. The masque that will work best for you depends on your skin type & condition.

  • For oily skin, look for masques containing clay and activated charcoal.
  • For dry skin, use masques rich in hyaluronic acid, vitamin C & aloe vera.
  • For acne-prone skin, masques containing colloidal sulfur and salicylic acid will exfoliate skin while loosening whiteheads & blackheads.

Combination skin? Apply the appropriate masque to the specific area(s). For example, use an oil-absorbing masque on the T-Zone & a hydrating masque on the rest of your face.

Cinnamon has properties that bring about better blood circulation that can contribute to healthier skin as well as an even skin tone. Honey helps moisturize as well as heal. Scrub your lips with a mix of half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey. You can leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes before washing. When applied to dry and discoloured lips, this can be extremely helpful.

HOW DO I Treat dark spots (aka hyperpigmentation)?

2/6/2021

Hyperpigmentation or dark spots are one of the most common types of skin discoloration. Dark spots are caused by melanocytes (cells responsible for skin's color) depositing excess pigment into deeper levels of the skin. Fade hyperpigmentation caused by previous breakouts, sun damage, or hormonal fluctuations with topical treatments formulated with brightening ingredients, such as vitamin C, licorice root, and kojic acid. Laser treatments also help diminish discoloration over time.

This a great masque to whip up if your skin is in need of instant replenishment!

Ingredients:
2 tablespoons cocoa powder (softens skin)
1 tablespoon honey (reduces inflammation)
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice (fades dark spots)
2 tablespoons ground coffee (exfoliates)

Combine all ingredients in a bowl and immediately apply to cleansed skin. If the mixture is too thick, thin it out with 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil. Leave on for 20 minutes or until it begins to dry. To remove, massage in circular motions with warm water. Apply moisturizer, as well as sunscreen if going outside, to dried skin.

WHAT IS Probiotic Skincare?

1/31/2021

Picture
Probiotic skincare products:
- build back the skin’s natural defenses against harsh environmental elements.
- form a protective shield against bad bacteria.
- reduce inflammation.
- prevent premature aging.
- eliminate bacteria that cause acne breakouts.

Look for ingredients such as Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, Vitreoscilla & xylitol. Probiotic skincare products have a shorter shelf life than other beauty products, as most products are not considered viable for more than six months. Also, most products need to be stored in a cool space or the refrigerator in order to maintain the health and effectiveness of the probiotic ingredients.

Relieve sunburn pain with oatmeal

Oatmeal is a great solution for sunburn pain relief. Just mix it with cold milk as a compress to soothe sunburned skin. Use soy milk, because it’s a natural anti-inflammatory that soothes the skin post-sun exposure. After you combine the oatmeal and milk, just put the paste on some gauze and apply gently to your sunburn. The oatmeal’s antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties prevent itching as well. Apply the oatmeal-milk compress to the affected area for 20 minutes, two times a day.

1. Always wash hands thoroughly with cleanser & water for at least 20 seconds before applying makeup or skin care products.

2. Use a clean cosmetic spatula or cotton swab to scoop out product from a jar. Do not share products with others or use the public product testers.

3. Consider adding in a mid-day facial cleanse as an extra precaution in light of the coronavirus risk.

Improve Your Complexion in 90 Days: Tip #8 - Use an eye cream

3/12/2020

The skin under your eyes is thinner than everywhere else. For this reason, it’s a good idea to have an eye cream on hand for daily use: The long-term benefit is that the skin around your eyes becomes firmer, shows fewer wrinkles and is as bright as the rest of your skin. Many of your regular skincare products will be sensitive around the eyes, too, which is why it’s wise to invest in a standalone eye product.

Improve Your Complexion in 90 Days: Tip #7 - Rotate in a retinol

3/10/2020

Along with a night cream, apply retinol before bed. Retinols are topical vitamin-A derivatives, and they resurface your healthy skin cells, prevent acne and smooth fine lines. Dermatologists believe that this is the single best solution to smooth skin (and the cornerstone of a good anti-aging skincare regimen).

Always wash your face in the morning, and use a daily SPF when using retinols. Do not use them when you’re experiencing high exposure to sun. They usually take three months of continued to showcase their effects, but those effects are prominent. You need to keep using the product afterward, too.
