Hyperpigmentation or dark spots are one of the most common types of skin discoloration. Dark spots are caused by melanocytes (cells responsible for skin's color) depositing excess pigment into deeper levels of the skin. Fade hyperpigmentation caused by previous breakouts, sun damage, or hormonal fluctuations with topical treatments formulated with brightening ingredients, such as vitamin C, licorice root, and kojic acid. Laser treatments also help diminish discoloration over time.

Thanks so much for explaining how hyperpigmentation happens. My aunt has been noticing that she's developed some darker spots around her arm and neck. We've been looking into finding a dermatologist to see if they can help her get those spots back to the color of the rest of her skin.
